Friday 29th November, 2002 (ANTaR Victoria media release) Download flyer for the event - [pdf - 11KB] Imagine: Rights, Justice and Reconciliation ANTaR Vic (formerly Defenders of Native Title), Reconciliation Victoria, Churches Reconciliation Network, National Youth Reconciliation, Friends of the Earth, Victorian Trades Hall, Australian Volunteers International and Diversity Victoria are inviting everyone to a day of celebration and reflection. IMAGINE: RIGHTS JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION will be held on Sunday December 8 from 1pm to 4pm at the Treasury Gardens to mark the ten year anniversary of former Prime Minister Paul Keating's Redfern Speech and also mark Human Rights Day. Mr. Peter Lewis, ANTaR Vic Chair, said today "We are seeing this as an opportunity to remind the community that after the Walks of 2000 there remains a lot of unfinished business. One has only to look at the Federal Government's recent two-years in the making paltry response to the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation's final report. We need to energize the community behind these issues once more."
Performers and speakers for the day include: Richard Frankland (award winning director and singer-songwriter), Deborah Mailman (actor - The Secret Life of Us), Kutcha Edwards (singer-songwriter), Lisa Bellear (poet, artist and broadcaster), Di Sisely (Equal Opportunity Commissioner and Reconciliation Victoria Co-chair), Marjorie Thorpe (former Reconciliation Victoria Co-Chair), Rev. Tim Costello (Urban Seed - Melbourne City Baptist Church) members of the Brolga Boys, Liz Cavanagh, Shane Howard, the Ploughboys and a couple of surprise guests. Come, see and be part of the Sea of Hands installation, which marks community commitment to reconciliation. FOR
